Container Home Prototype
Affordable Housing Initiative
This modern container home prototype was developed as part of an affordable housing initiative with R-Development. JTC Architecture provided architectural illustrations and developed the construction document set to translate the conceptual vision into a buildable, coordinated design.
The design reimagines repurposed shipping containers as a refined and intentional residential solution. Rather than feeling modular or industrial, the home is composed as a series of clean, stacked volumes that create depth, rhythm, and strong indoor-outdoor connections. Large expanses of glass, elevated terraces, and layered façade treatments soften the container geometry.
The prototype emphasizes cost-efficient construction using standardized container modules, a stacked massing strategy to maximize site flexibility and vertical density, and integrated outdoor living spaces including elevated decks and covered areas. A contemporary material palette balances metal paneling, warm accents, and glazing.
A partially elevated lower level creates covered parking and protected entry zones, while upper volumes frame outdoor terraces and maximize views. The result is a modern, energy-conscious housing solution that demonstrates how container construction can move beyond novelty into thoughtful, high-quality residential design.
